Installation Specifications and Recommendations
- Internal Dimensions: The top glass pane includes a black border, which extends the overall external size by 200 mm on each side.
- Creating the Opening: Allow an additional 10 mm internally (upstand to upstand) for a proper fit. For example, a 600 x 900 mm skylight should have an opening of 610 x 910 mm.
- Upstand Construction: Construct the wooden upstand using 2×1 or 2×2-inch timbers to create a stable frame.
- Foam Rope and Sealant: Install foam rope on top of the internal support baton to evenly distribute weight and reduce stress on the glass. Apply Dowsil 791 black sealant to ensure a watertight seal around the upstand. Avoid acrylic sealants, as they are not compatible with the glass.
- Flashing: Proper flashing is essential for waterproofing. One 7.5-metre roll typically covers the full perimeter of skylights up to 1000 x 2000 mm in size (approximately 6 metres of flashing required).
