Installation Recommendations
- Internal Dimensions: The top pane includes a black border, extending the external size by approximately 200 mm in each direction.
- Creating the Opening: Allow an additional 10 mm internally (upstand to upstand) for proper fitting. For example, a 600 x 900 mm skylight requires an opening of 610 x 910 mm.
- Upstand Construction: Build the upstand (the timber framework housing the skylight) using 2×1 or 2×2-inch timbers for strength and precision.
- Foam Rope & Sealant: Use foam rope on top of the internal baton to balance load distribution and relieve glass stress. Apply Dowsil 791 black sealant to create a watertight perimeter — avoid using acrylic sealants as they are incompatible.
- Flashing: Ensure flashing fully seals around the upstand and roof tiles. Each roll measures 7.5 metres, sufficient for up to 6 metres of skylight perimeter (e.g., 1000 x 2000 mm units).
